Traffic Network

Xicheng District has a sophisticated transportation network based on subways, light-rail lines and roads. The subway is the fastest and easiest way to travel through certain parts of the district, with Beijing Subway Lines 1, 2, 4, 6, 7, 8 and lightrail Line 13 serving the district, including transfer stations such as Xizhimen, Xidan and Xuanwumen. The Xizhimen depot, the city’s largest multi-dimensional transfer station, is a comprehensive transportation hub for state-railway, urban light-rail, subway and other public transportation vehicles. It also allows passengers to enjoy the comfort of good commercial, catering and parking services. With an area of 14,000 square metres, the Beijing Zoo bus depot makes it possible for centralized transfers to more than 10 bus routes. There are also plenty of parking lots for cars.

In 2015, Xicheng District carried out large and medium scale maintenance of 38 roads, completed municipal sewer line reconstruction on 43 roads, finished 5 traffic relief projects and built 6 slow traffic systems. Moreover, Xicheng District renovated 15 barrier-free facilities, completed 28 cycling demonstration projects, and put 1000 public bicycles into use.

In 2016, Xicheng District carried out large and medium scale maintenance of 32 roads, completed municipal sewer line reconstruction on 52 roads, finished 7 traffic relief projects and built 38 slow traffic systems.

In 2017, Xicheng District carried out large and medium scale maintenance of 33 roads, completed municipal sewer line reconstruction on 35 roads, finished 5 traffic relief projects, and completed 31 overhead power line-into-underground cable projects and 81 overhead communication cable-into-underground cable projects. There are 1642 new parking spaces in residential areas, 804 pilot electronic parking spaces and 1213 non-motor vehicle parking spaces.


In 2018, Xicheng District carried out large and medium scale maintenance of 17 roads, and finished 5 traffic relief projects. Xicheng District realized the management of public service facilities on 44 roads by two-dimensional code. There are 3 new parking buildings, 341 new mechanical parking spaces, 1486 new parking spaces in residential areas, and 4774 electronic parking spaces.
